Please RSVP by September 1st
We first met in person on June 3rd, 2018. We had been talking on the dating app Coffee Meets Bagel for only a couple days before that.
If you're not familiar with how these dating apps work:
you look at a profile, decide yes or no, then if you both say yes, you typically get a limited amount of time to chat on the app before your conversation expires.
Amy had also recently found a new apartment that happened to be just outside of Jon's 10 mile radius, so a couple weeks later and they may never have met.
First Date
Our first date was in the Harbor Point area of Stamford at a restaurant called Sign of the Whale. The restaurant was noisy, the food was ok and the weather was maybe a little too cold to be walking around the harbor, but we enjoyed the company and conversation.
Second Date
Amy treated Jon to one of her favorite hobbies: getting bubble tea at the mall (PaPa Tea is the best in Danbury).
Meet the Family
Amy met the whole extended Barry family at the same time at Grandma Barry's 90th birthday surprise party which involved a pirate-themed escape room.
Jon met Amy's family for a relaxing and delicious dim sum lunch.
Travelling Together
Our first big trip together was a road trip up to Montreal for a long weekend. Highlights include several trips to Mr. Puffs, a nice 7 course dinner, and getting caught in a torrential downpour at the top of Mount Royal.
In October 2019, we went to Italy to travel around Rome, Naples, and Florence. Much to the disapprovazione dei locali, we treated ourselves to a gelato every morning and a 3pm cappuccino every afternoon.
Other trips have included Washington DC, Newport, Mystic, Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Finding a Furever Home
In 2022, Amy had the idea to start volunteering at the animal shelter around the corner from our apartment, R.O.A.R. Jon worked with the dogs (and their poop) and Amy wrestled the cats. It was a great experience for us and we made good friends with the others at the shelter and every animal we had the pleasure of bonding with.
With Jon working from home and us realizing we needed a furry family of our own, we decided to buy a house in 2023. We're excited to make it our own and looking forward to continuing to build our life together there.
About six months after getting settled into our home, we rescued Eve, a 1 year old pup from Texas who came to R.O.A.R. She has been such a great addition to our family and we're so happy to see her grow and get comfortable.
